Ontlametse Phalatse Loses her Fight with Progeria
Ontlametse Phalatse, the Progeria hero and brave teen has passed on this morning, at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital in Ga-Rankuwa.
Ontlametse had been living with progeria for all her life, and we came to know her as one brave soul. Progeria, an extremely rare genetic disorder in which symptoms resembling aspects of aging are manifested at a very early age, affects individuals and shortens their life span significantly.
The 18 year old became an inspiration to many of us, and she fought the disorder by defying doctors predictions that she would not live past 14 years of age.
South Africans took to social media to pay tribute to her, and to express their sadness at her loss.
One thing is clear, Ontlametse Phalatse was feisty soul, and she will never be forgotten. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
Here are some of the tweets:
Ontlametse Phalatse was one of two SA girls living with Progeria causing rapid aging. She was 18 made it passed 14.
