Benni McCarthy sacked by Sint Truiden
Former Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy has decided to leave his job as assistant coach for the Belgian Premier League club Sint-Truiden, which the club also agrees on. McCarthy will follow Chris O’Loughlin, who is also leaving his post as head coach.
McCarthy and O’Loughlin will stay with the Belgian club until the end of the current season. They will stay in charge until the club completes its Europa League qualification. There are six more games to play. The club already lost the first game to Mechelen with a score of 1-0.
The 38-year-old former footballer began serving as the league’s assistant coach in September 2015. At that point the team already played six matches.
McCarthy’s job as assistant coach was his first official role as part of a technical team, although he previously worked with Hibernian as a striker consultant in Scotland. McCarthy and the club stated that they reached a mutual agreement about his departure. Neither McCarthy nor O’Loughlin has released a statement concerning their future plans.
