Caster Semenya continues to build up for the South Africa National Championship(SANC). The athlete makes an appearance at Stellenbosch on April 7 for the final Varsity Athletics games at Coetzenburg. This same site will host the SANC over the weekend of April 15-16.
The 800m Olympic silver medalist will be using this outing to improve on her timing in the 800m distance. Her best time this year stands at 2 minutes 00.23 seconds -a time that was set in her first run of the year at Green Point Stadium,West Cape just a fortnight before the Varsity event. The 25-year-old has hinted at running a faster initial lap to attain her personal best time of 1 minute 55.45 seconds in the 800m race.
The outing in Stellenbosch is part of a dual strategy been employed by the athlete, namely: To prepare for the August 2016 Rio Olympics and to sharpen her speed as she mulls over running the shorter 400m distance race.
