I have been inspired by a woman called Sybil who took a challenge to stop complaining for 40 days. That challenge ended up changing her life.
As I read her story, I was so inspired that I decided that I too should do the challenge.
My life was not going the way I wanted it to, and that was my main focus. The problem is, I was saying it out, every little thing that I was thinking and everything that was going wrong in my life. I was putting words into everything I didn’t like about my life, and I realised that all that it does is draw in more defeat, more struggle, more frustration. After I read that story, I have made a choice, to focus on the great things. The positive things.
The truth is, it’s easy to be focused on the negative, but all that does is to magnify them. I want to now focus on the positive things, and magnify those.
I have decided to shift that focus and look at what I have been blessed with. It’s a long list of things, and focusing on the bad things makes me take everything else for granted.
So this is me, committing to stop complaining for the next 40 days. And to only focus on amazing things. To show gratitude for even the little things, starting right now:
God thank you for:
- My job
- My health
- My family
- My parents
- The opportunities that I have
- The roof over my head
- The food in my stomach
- The clothes that I have
- The fact that I will wake up to hot water and electricity
- My websites
- The money that I have in my bank account
- The shoes that I wear
- The people in my life
- My partner
- My friends
- Those that have taught me life lessons
- the list goes on and on
As I said the list is endless and I will complete it in my private space.
What I want to do is to encourage you to do the same. Take time everyday and be thankful for something that you are grateful for in your life.
When was the last time you admired the ocean? Or the flowers? Or smiled when you saw children playing?
Those are things that should remind us how blessed we are, that remind how great it is to be alive and to still be able to experience that beauty.
So let me ask you, what are you thankful for? What is it that puts a smile on your face every time you think about it?
Who are the people that you hold dear? The people that you love more than anything in this world? Those in your life that make life worth living?
Let me remind you that life is short. We always think we have time, that today does not matter much because we have tomorrow.
The truth is, tomorrow is not guaranteed. Today is all we really have.
So let me challenge you, to limit your complaining, to stop focusing on all that is going bad in your life and to focus on those things that remind you that you are truly blessed.
Let your words encourage someone, let them be kind to someone and let them change your life.
It is truly possible! ! Because there is always something to be thankful for.
