Collen Chauke Biopic: Enhle Mbali Maphumulo to play Collen Chauke’s wife
Actress Enhle Mbali Maphumulo has landed the role of Collen Chauke’s wife in the Collen Chauke Biopic. Having played a lot of roles in many dramas and tv productions, this role is one that she is excited about.
She will be playing Collen Chauke’s wife, the notorious criminal known for the heists that he did years ago . . . and we just can’t wait for its release later this year.
Enhle Mbali will be teaming up with actor Mduduzi Mabaso (from etv’s Rhythm City) in the upcoming film‚ called Enemy of The State: Collen Chauke. It delves into the life of SA’s most wanted heist criminal.
About her new role, Mbali told TshisaLive, “We all knew the stories of Collen and how tactical his bank robberies were. It is such a rich South African story and the cast is so rich in performance. I loved the love story between Collen and Grace and wanted to be able to tell their story.”
Chauke and Grace’s love story does need to be told, and we can’t wait to see how the whole movie unfolds.
“She (Grace) is feisty and she has a ridge personality but tries to keep it tasteful. She tried to find the equilibrium between being a girl from the township; but being a girl who is smart; and not being too ghetto and uptight about life‚” added Enhle.
“Playing Grace has been lovely. It’s nice to share what kind of person she was – just how everyone wanted to be her and be like her. She was a smart girl and worked at the JSE‚ then that was a huge thing.”
In addition to Enhle doing the movie, other actors and actresses include Meshack Mavuso‚ Thami Mnqolo‚ Pearl Modiadie and musician Ntsiki Mazwai.
Collen Chauke was involved in robberies worth millions of Rands, and he was arrested in January 1999. He died in 2003 in jail.
