Instagram’s Boomerang is a new application that is available for free downloads in both the Android and the iOS platforms. Through this new video application, users can post one-second video ‘loops’. The Boomerang app is capable of taking a burst of photos and sews them together into a high-quality mini video which can be played both forward and backward. This endeavor by Instagram is its way of combating its rivals who are offering animated images.
According to a statement by the Facebook-owned picture-sharing network, the new video application, ‘Boomerang’ is that latest video application which “lets you turn everyday moments into something fun and unexpected.” This was stated by them in a blog post.
As the next step to HyperLapse and Layout, Boomerang is the latest fun social app from the leading photo sharing company which facilitates the saving of fun or special moments in a mini video which is in sharp contrast to its ubiquitous GIFs and Vines. While the Instagram feature is less than the six-second video segments on Twitter-owned Vine but it provides a much richer experience compared to the animated images known as GIFs. This high quality 1-second video loop can easily be shared on the Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or any other IM platforms.
