It’s a good day for Jub Jub, real name Molemo Maarohanye. The rapper and his co-accused Themba Tshabalala have had their murder convictions overturned in Johannesburg’s High court today.
When they were convicted of murder, they each got 25 years each, and it is reported that the sentences were reduced to 8 years. The two were found guilty of murder, attempted murder and other offences related to alcohol and drugs, after 4 children were killed in Soweto in 2010, when they were drag racing.
Thanks to Dolus Eventualis, the judge in the High Court concluded that they cannot be guilty of murder, because they could not have foreseen that the collision could occur, taking children’s lives.
Their convictions were changed to culpable homicide, with a sentence of 10 years. They have already served two years in jail, and that time will be credited.
After Oscar Pistorius was found not guilty of murder, a lot of people took to Twitter to voice their opinions, and similarities were drawn for the OP case and Jub Jub’s case. Because clearly, Oscar Pistorius was sober and knew very well that his actions could end up killing the person behind the door.
Jub Jub on the other hand, had no intention of killing anyone, so it seemed unfair that OP would get away with what he knew could cause the death of a person who was behind the door.
Anyway, I am really happy for Jub Jub and his co-accused. It was a terrible mistake that happened, and maybe he deserves a second chance, because we all do!
