Making Instagram work for you and your business

As the days pass, it becomes even more difficult to ignore Instagram, and more and more, it’s a platform that companies and businesses need to get on and start using.

With the many social media platforms that are out there, from Facebook to Twitter, Pinterest, Google Plus and the others, most people feel overwhelmed about what to do and how to spread their time among the different platforms that are out there.

The trick is to choose a few, maybe 2 or three to really be good at and focus on. Whatever choices you make, make sure that Instagram is one of them.

How to start using Instagram

Make your profile nice

Signing up is the easy part. Once you are on the platform, make sure that you make your profile attractive, so that you can attract followers. Fill in your website, tell people what you do, have a personality. And use #hashtags.

Check out influencers in your niche

Scout the competition and check out the influencers in your niche. Check out the type of things that they post and the kind of engagement that they get.

Post some pictures

Before you even think of following people, make sure you have some posts on your page. For starters, put at least 15 posts, and make sure that they are enticing and relevant to the niche that you are in. Use #hashtags related to the niche, and help people find you easily.

Start following some people

These can be influencers in your niche, and it should also be your target market. Reach out to those that you want your services or products to reach and start engaging with them.

Get some people to follow you

One of the best ways to get people to follow you is to follow them first, especially in the beginning. Like their pictures, leave some comments on their pictures and acknowledge their comments that they leave on your pictures.

Continue to engage with people, continue to post relevant enticing high quality images, and as you do this continuously, people will start to take notice of you.

Instagram is a fun place to be, you can use it to drive traffic to your website and your products. Have a plan and know what you want to achieve, and align that with what you need to do weekly/monthly.
