Overcoming low self esteem
I wanted to touch on this subject because a lot of people struggle with it quite a lot. Low self esteem can make you feel down a lot, to the point where you are unable to appreciate the life you have, to the point where you do not see the value in yourself. So, instead of walking with your head facing down, shoulders slumped, you can walk tall and know that you are someone, that you mean something to someone out there and that you are worth it. Here is how to overcome low self esteem:
Be aware of the critic that you are to yourself – Most of the time, we tend to judge ourselves very harshly, and we criticise ourselves on a lot of things. You need to become aware of this, so that when you start doing it, to nip it from the second you start doing it. Realise that you are a human being, and sometimes you will get it wrong but that does not mean that you are loser. Be kind to yourself, instead of putting yourself down all the time.
Start thinking positive thoughts about yourself – When you start being aware of your thoughts and the things that you are saying about yourself, you will get good at catching yourself the second you start thinking something bad. When you fall short or when you make a mistake, instead of just jumping to the conclusion that you are a loser, stop yourself dead in your tracks. Refuse to believe whatever lie you are telling yourself, and remind yourself that you are capable and you are more than able.
Stop comparing yourself to others – The race should really be between yourself, you should be trying to outrun yourself instead of the next person. You are a unique individual and you have something to offer the world that only you are capable of offering. Do not compare yourself with other people, instead focus on being the very best that you can be. Be a better person today than you were yesterday.
Love yourself and respect yourself – Like I mentioned before, be kind to yourself and respect the person that you are and the gifts that you have been blessed with. You may not be the smartest person in the world or the one with the most amazing looks, but there is something in you that no one has. Appreciate who you are and what you can offer this world, and work on making it better and bigger.
Nobody can make you feel bad in this world, unless they have your permission – be picky about the people you spend your time with and the people that you listen to. If someone is saying something to you and it is not adding anything positive to the person that you are, just ignore it. You will never be able to control the things people say about you or what they throw your way, however, you can choose what to do with it.
Keep a positive journal – Write things that are great about you, and things that you love about you. Whenever you are feeling down, it is this journal that you should go to and remind yourself just how great you are. In addition to this, remind yourself every single day just how great you are. Remember you are a winner and there are so many great things about you. Never forget it!
Overcoming low self esteem will take some practice on your side, because you are so used to shooting yourself down, so you will need to develop new habits where you are kind to yourself and remind yourself just how amazing you are. Never let low self esteem get you down and control your life.
