Senzo Meyiwa’s family get R2 million of the insurance payout
Senzo Meyiwa’s children are going to benefit from the Premier Soccer League insurance policy, which according to Irvin Khoza has paid out.
They paid out a total of R4 million, which is going to be divided equally between the Meyiwa family and the club, Orlando Pirates.
Senzo’s killers are yet to be found, but at least the family can have it a bit easier financially as they await the outcome of his investigation.
“We claim our 50 percent. It’s the expenses that we do not claim, because I think the expenses are way over five/six hundred thousand, so we thought it’s not necessary to claim those expenses, especially as a contribution to the spirit of Senzo and the way he addressed himself as a benchmark. And the reward for Senzo, for his honesty, was to be the captain of Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana until his passing, there can be no better benchmark than that one,” said Orlando Pirates chairman, Irvin Khoza.
Senzo had a child with his wife Mandisa Mkhize, and another with Kelly Khumalo. He also had a child from a previous relationship, and it is these kids that will benefit from the insurance payout.
Senzo was shot dead in October 2014 in Vosloorus at the house of Kelly Khumalo’s house. His killers are still at large and the police have roped in the help of the Hawks to help with the investigation.
