Siyaboga Sangweni retires from professional football
Orlando Pirates chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza confirmed today (Thursday) early in the morning, that the Pirates defender Siyaboga Sangweni retires from professional football.
This indeed is a shocking news for the fans and the followers of the club, as Sangweni is just 34 now and the retirement seems pre-mature. The chairman added in his press conference that the footballer has been suffering from serious injuries for quiet some time now, and as such the medics have advised him again playing further.
The chairman further continued the praise for the stalwart and acknowledged him as a great leader, whom the club is bound to miss. He compared Sangweni to the likes of Jomo Sono, both of them having such great commitment to the sport, and even affording to interrupt their own weddings for the Club.
The Empageni born player had his 2016 season being cut short as a result of the knee injury that he suffered earlier in the campaign. His last game for the Bucs was in the CAF cup, lost against Etoile-du-Sahel in November. A short but glorious career indeed. Respect to the great player that he was.
