South African Boxer Ronnie Du Preez Passes Away

It is with heavy hearts that we learn that South African boxer Ronnie Du Preeze has passed away.

Du Preez hailed from Port Elizabeth on the Eastern Cape.
He fought in 22 Professional bouts in the welterweight division with a 10-year career ending at (13-9-0).

His career highlights included wins over Des Rea (27-26-2) of England, Spider Kelly (28-12-2), Gert Craemer (11-2-0), Japie Steyn (11-6-0), and Alex Mcmillan (10-13-2).

He fought Dirk Van der Westhuizen (17-5-2) who he beat by points in a 6 round thriller at the Feather Market Hall, Port Elizabeth.

In the rematch, he was poised to claim the vacant title. He lost by points, however, in a 12 round brawl to the more seasoned Van der Westhuizen.Du Preez later lost in the decider a year later and again 4 months later to Van Der Westhuizen on 27/10/75.

His last bout ended in a points decision win over Paulus Lichakane at the Joekies Ice Rink, in Welkom, South Africa on 22/05/1981.
